Common Blackbird
Turdus merula
“mellow flute-like phrases from a rooftop”
Its mellow, flute-like song from a rooftop perch is the signature sound of British suburbs.
She sings too: Female Blackbirds sing too. Their song is quieter. It is rare to hear, so listen closely.
